Yesterday was my third time to see BBC's "The Battle of the Atlantic" DVD, on its back cover, it wrote: "Battles might be won or lost, but our power to fight, to keep ourselves alive rested on the outcome of the struggle for control of the Atlantic." Winston Churchill The Battle of the Atlantic was a fight for Britain's very survival. From 1939 until 1942, Hitler's submarines - his "Grey Wolves" - threatened to starve Britain into submission by preventing ships from carrying food, raw materials, troops and their equipment from North America. By 1942, just a handful of U-boats had brought Britain to the brink of defeat - over 30,000 merchant seamen had lost their lives. Only the capture of an Enigma machine and the invention of radar could spur a fightback. As the tables turned in the struggle for control of the Altantic's "sal****er highways" over 85% of U-boat crews would lose their lives. Through eye-witness accounts, dramatic reconstructions and a wealth of archive material, the compelling story unfolds of the longest, and one of the most bitterly fought campaigns of World War II. Content: 1 The Grey Wolves 2 Keeping Secrets 3 The Hunted Feature Running Time: 145 mins approx This is one of my favourite. Many thanks. "Life is full of illness. Disease is illness. Family dispute is illness. Social unrest is illness." Master Cheng Yen
Flags of our Fathers Wow... yep... And Pearl HArbour, I dont think that it really depicts the event rightly though... What do you think? tune in next time to find out wether out veiwers think it it... A) alright, B) perfect, or C) I HAATE IT!! sorry, just a bit caught up there... =D
As a movie about the great camaraderie, hatred caused by love to one woman and wonderful action sequences, I'd give it 10/10 with no doubt. But considering the fact that it tries to recreate historical events, and is filled with historical flaws completely, it deserves no more then 5/10.
Watched 'Battle of the River Plate' yesterday. First time I've seen it all the way through. One of the casualties on the Exeter was from the school where I work. He's named on the Plymouth Memorial. Don't know why he wasn't buried. Steve W.
Just finished watching Saints & Soldiers. Bit obvious in places, but OK overall. Steve W. It's full of goof-ups as well. The biggest one would probably be the fact that the main characters serve in 101st Airborne. But the problem is, that there were absolutely no paratroopers involved in the Malmédy massacre.
Anyone seen this ? I thought it was really good. Not very well known in the UK due to it being a Russian Film

When I saw it Saturday at a knockdown price I bought it. I didn't realise that the main characters were 101st. Didn't spoil it, though. Steve W.

Hi, Not really a series , perhaps a mini movie?Check this out and then tell me you did`nt feel shivers down your spine. YouTube - Verrieres Regards Verrieres
Not quite WW2 but I'm watching this tonight on Sky Its about the East German Police during the Cold War
I stand corrected....I thought it was filmed in the 60's but its set in the 80's just before the fall of the wall. Highly recommeded, another good foreign film and a good insite into what the GDR must have been like after the war....It seemed like very little changed where there was a air of suspicion amongst everyone and everyone was informing on everyone else for favours. It reminded me of my visits to Bulgaria in the early 80's.
Watched Downfall the other day. Thought it was a really good film which gives a good idea as to what may have been going on in Hitlers bunker as his last minutes drew closer. I liked the way the actor who played Hitler did that movement with his hand when it was behind his back. Superb stuff.
Yes, Downfall is a superb movie. I have recently been watching The Counterfeiters - almost a perfect movie, incredible. About the plan to copy the dollar using concentration camp inmates. Previously the story had been loosly covered in a BBC series with Michael Elphik called Private Schulz (TV series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Assembly - Chinese movie about the Civil War in 1948. In parts, totally stunning visually. Incredible battle scenes, if a little 'over the top' Assembly (film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Days Of Glory - in my opinion a very important, well made and enjoyable film about the part played by North Africans in the French Army. Veterans actually recieved pensions previously withheld, because of this movie Days of Glory (2006 film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Come and See - well, this simply blew me away. This film is mind blowing. Horror film? Documentary? Blimey, it's enough to send you stark raving mad. I cant recco the dvd version enough! Come and See - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia also the Britain's Home Front DVD's - 'London Can take It', 'Words For Battle' and 'Women and Children At War' I recently got hold of a copy of Die Brucke, a German language film that I think we should have been able to see in UK long ago, on tv etc. I dont have the subtitles for the movie, but you dont really need them as it's filmed in a semi documentary style. The visual story of "boys to men via combat" is universal. A really excellent film. Die Brücke (film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Rewatching always, even if it's just a quick clip on the PC during a quiet moment - The Cruel Sea, One Of Our Aircraft Is Missing, The Way Ahead, Malta Story, Das Boot, Cross Of Iron, Cottage To Let, Millions Like Us, Silent Enemy, The Train, Dunkirk, Passport To Pimlico, Went The Day Well, We Dive At Dawn, Above Us The Waves, In Which We Serve etc
Watching the re run of Band of Brothers on BBC2. My third time and everytime I watch it I see something new
At Home Dad, those are some good ones, but wouldn't it be better to post their IMDb pages instead of Wiki. Half of them doesn't even have their Wiki article created. Just an idea.
The last one I watched: I liked it very much. A decent B-war drama with some good horror elements. Both of the leading actors did a fine job. The cover is pretty strange however, since there were no skeleton Nazis in it.
