The Battle of the Bulge a couple of days ago. Now I will take part in my own battle against the bulge and try not to eat too much over the Christmas period.

Heroes of Telemark. Cannot believe I’ve not seen it before as I love old Dickie Harris.

An episode of Inspector Monalbano, where he investigates a murder with motive doing back to 1943.when the Allies invaded Sicily. The alleged reasons why the Italian fascists opposed the invasion.
BBC iPlayer - Inspector Montalbano - A Diary from 43
A part of the war I'm specially interested in as my Dad was in one of the RN offshore ships.

Watched this when it first aired last year on BBC4. The ‘Who dunnit?’ was a bit too easy, but I confess that I really enjoy a bit of Montalbano.

My Grandad was there too, with the RA in 8th Army, gawd bless ‘im.

    This one.

A piece of whimsy full of inaccuracies but worth the 10 minutes or so maybe.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

The Way Ahead this afternoon on Talking Pictures (what a great channel this is).

I enjoy it as much now as I did the first twenty times!

I recorded the 1946 School For Secrets on Talking Pictures the other evening, having no recollection of ever having seen this one before. I’m currently about half way through, what with constant interruptions (grrrr).

Not wholly accurate I am sure, and doubtless the average cinema audience would not have wanted to be baffled by too much science and technology (that, and much must still have been shrouded in secrecy at the time), but so far it has been fairly entertaining and certainly has a post war “feel good” atmosphere to it.

At the end of the day, entertainment it is, of course and so far, in parts, it has been quite funny and Ralph Richardson is, as ever, a delight.

Dear, dear Dickie Attenborough pops up too - “Surely not” I hear you all cry as one. No sign of John Mills yet, though...

Watched The Resistance Banker on Netflix today and it is very, very good. A true story and one I certainly hadn’t ever heard about. Although it was in my list on Netflix, I’d put off watching it for a while now, I wasn’t sure about the subject matter. I was wrong, it is well worth seeing and it’s a story that thoroughly deserves to be told.

    I highly recommend it.

    Got around to 'Darkest Hour'.
Oldman's Churchill really is remarkable. Quite hard to see Oldman in there.
Well beyond actors thinking a Cigar, Hat & funny voice will do.

I saw today that this is now on Netflix too. It’s next on my list to watch.

They’ve got Dunkirk too, the 2017 version, but I’m not sure if I’ll spend the whole film getting annoyed or not. I just have to remember it’s entertainment :pipe:

To paraphrase Michael in Braveheart, "I must not be right in the head" because I liked Dunkirk

    Me too.
It seems designed purely to assault the senses. The confusion deliberate.
Glad I saw it on the big screen as I think it'd be much weaker on a TV without the ear-ripping sound etc.
The train seats did jar, though...
