    What is FS Marching Order and when was it used?

    I've seen it worn on kit parades but not in action.

    FSMO= Field Service Marching Order?

    Field Service Marching Order, the infantryman's full load of equipment.

    Only a guess

    Yep, as scottiow said, "field service marching order" - which meant the infantryman's full load of equipment

    Everything you owned including your blanket. That was wrapped around the big square valise worn or your back. Your small pack slung round your neck and at your belt. two ammo pouches, gas mask, rifle. ground sheet...Everything you owned, and that made up a soldiers life.
    FSMO was designed to make a soldier totally independant. We sometimes route marched in FSMO just to make you Fit?

    The assault course "a real bitch" that required crossing the river twice. first at the very deep end, then at the shallow end, was done carrying FSMO if you can imagine anything tougher I would like to know about it.

    Live explosives were thrown underneath as you crossed mud pits and as you crossed Kapok assault floats. Lost your rifle in deep water? Ok charge him for the one he lost and for the new one!!!!

    Get your mates together that can swim and dive, to recover your rifle and any other kit lost on ther assault course river deep end...too deep to stand in. anything to do with water? Condoms come in handy ! rather like its true purpose ! it covers the business end
    More tea Vicar?
