A fairly good explanation here of Quakers Religious Society of Friends - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia And a Mennenite Mennonite - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cheers guys. I don't understand why the other members of Easy found this funny, but atleast I now know what they mean. One of my mates said a Quaker is a gay. hahaha. cheers marcus
We have some Mennonites living in the area and a lot further south. You couldn't ask for better neighbors. They don't bother anyone and keep to themselves. They obey the laws and generally cause no problems. Their apparel and hair styles are dated, but is that really all that important?
We lived around the corner from a Quaker 'church' for a while. Foot high black letters announcing the usual "Friends Meeting House"... until the 'r' fell off... Stayed like that for years.

We used to have mennonites livng in Belize, they speak an version of german which dates from the middle ages, the time they left the country. One of our lads was Jewish and spoke yiddish, which itself dates from the middle ages. One day some of them travelled to Belize City to sell their furniture which was highly prized. Issac stood behind two of them having a conversation and then broke in speaking to them in yidddish! The look on their faces was amazing as they could understand him!
Marcus, Quakers are strong believers in pacifism. Many became conscientious objectors or served in non-combatant roles. Field Ambulances for example. That doesn't mean they weren't brave and courageous as any other soldiers. That is why the men of Easy company would find it funny, a man with Winters record was a Quaker.
Marcus, I've been Googling around with "Quakers soldiers ww2". Have a look here. http://tre.ngfl.gov.uk/pdf/10369.txt There are a few stories there you can look up. (Only trouble is I can't open the .rtf files . Help! how do you read a rich text format?) Including this link. full picture which allows you to read the stories, including Bob Barnet who was in an Infantry unit.. Bob Barnet
Marcus, (Only trouble is I can't open the .rtf files . Help! how do you read a rich text format?) Owen I use MS Word, but Wordpad (or most other text editors with more than minimal functions) will do the job. Check in Control Panel/Folder options/File types for extension .RTF to see how you're set up, and to make any change. Jim
Owen, open Word, then go to File in the Menu Bar, select Open from the drop down menu, in the new dialog box, make sure "All Word Documents" is selected at the bottom, then navigate to your file and open it. -OR- Right click the file you want to open, and select Open With. Then select Choose Program and select the application you want to use to open the file, such as Word, Wordpad or your favorite text editor. If you want to have that specific App to always open that file type, then check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.
