Since people are so interested in "What If" questions. What effect would it have haD ON WW2 if Britian and germany had become allies and divided europe between them?
hm they would have attacked russia and probably conquered it . Maybe the russian regions near sea would have been occupied by the british while the mainland by the germans. They would have probably built settlements in central russia because Hitler thought of germany being overcrowded.
A very interesting 'What if'. I suppose, the subject of hidden adenda must be discussed. Lord Halifax and King Edward VII were both pro-Hitler in the early/mid 1930s. Mosley had a popular following in the British ruling classes and the working classes, though he had a bad press from Beaverbrooke. Britian had economic pressures and the power of the unions after the general strike was still militant. Hitler had saved Germany from economic ruin and dragged it back to a powerful state in both the military and economic areas, and more importantly gave the German people back their self respect and pride. Diplomatic exchanges benefited Germany and Britain. Cultral and educational exchanges took place. Britain and USA invested in Germany and the power of the Stock Exchanges moved at full speed as high profits were in the making. Hitler had reluctant backing from the German aristocracy and financiers both Jewish and otherwise in the early years but as things were seen to improve in Germany their reluctance slowly disappeared. That same German aristocracy was related to the British aristocracy and the British Royal family who were of part German origin. The thought of another conflict with Germany must have sent a deep thunder to the roots of the British establishment. Is this why appeasement was so popular until Germany began to invade other countries in Europe? Two other incidents seem relevant. Why did Hess come to Britain? Why did German forces pause before Dunkirk? IMHO in the early to middle 1930s Germany and Britain were close to some sort of pact mainly I think to put the USSR in its place and silence the rise of the Communist sympathies throughout Europe. Britain's pact with Germany would follow one with the greatest capitalist state USA. USSR would be alone, no aid from the west. Poland and all the other countries of Europe would join the New Triple Alliance. Economic pressure would topple Stalin eventually with no bloody war. Seems vaguely familiar!
Why did German forces pause before Dunkirk? Rundstedt's order to halt was (At that point in the war) most unusual in it's specific confirmation by Hitler, I tend towards the view that this was a point when Hitler was most seriously considering how to come to peace with Great Britain. However Goering had promised Hitler that he could Utterly destroy The withdrawing troops from the air so was it a question of making peace or trusting an old comrade (while elated at the current success of the grand plan) and at the same time preserving valuable materiel?
Well it never would have happened. But revisionist history is always fun... If Britain had allied itself with Germany, this would have followed Hitler's plans. He wanted alliances with Italy and Britain under the terms that Italy would expand its Mediterranean empire, Britain would keep all of its overseas interests and the Third Reich would expand through most of continental Europe. So, I'd say the Axis would have won WWII, assuming the U.S. didn't get involved. It's hard to say though. Whether or not the U.S. would supply the Red Army is also in question.... Too many factors.....

The Panzer divisions at that point were in dire need of repair, many breakdowns. Goering shot his mouth off and Hitler called him on it. Hitler admired the British and their Empire and would have preferred a cease fire. It might have happened had Chamberlain still been around.
