The P1500 was the best tank :p
You mean that loopy 1500 ton idea with the sodding great battleship turret?
I'll counter that with a TOG2 or Bob Semple!
I liked the Sentinel suggestion. Bit of a centrefold of the tank world.

Well the Bob tank was probably the most comfortable tank of the war, coming with its own bed and all.

Got to agree with Gnomey it's the Churchill Crocodile for me. It may not be as sexy as a Tiger or Panther dashing about the woodwork with a big thing at the front, but to have the enemy wave the white flag by just appearing at the scene, that's the dog's for me!

Do you know which regiment your Grand Father was in?
Give my regards to HMS Excellent and Whale Island but don't go near the lake, they make you jump in!

    Yep

He served with the 1st Fife and Forfar Yeomanry Sqn C, sept 44 - May 45

Managed to dodge the lake, didnt get to see HMS Excellent, but had an hour or so to kill so went over to the Museum, it is in quite a magnificant complex of buildings which i believe used to be the old RM Artilary barracks.

Rushed round abit, the first RM female soldier is quite a weird set up, but realy enjoyed it.

Here is a picture of 1st Fife and Forfar Yeomanry Sqn C in which my Grandfather served from Sept 44- May 45, this was part of the 79th Armoured Div,using Chuchill Crocodile Tanks

I guess it is quite a rare photo of the unit during their tour

There was no more a 'best tank' than there's a 'best camera', or anything else for that matter. It depends where you are and what you have to do.

Nobody's mentioned Sherman Firefly, so I'll put in a word for it. It was agile (-ish), reliable, easy to maintain in service and could smack anything given a decent shot. And it was available. You didn't have to like the fact that it was scarcely better protected than a standard M4, but it did the work that was put in front of it. Jerry respected it sufficiently to make it a priority target, and to use it himself when he got one in good order. You can't say better than that.

    Regards,
