    Canuck -
I took the fact that he had your name first indicated that he would be picking up the tab......my son tells me the Four Seasons is nice !
    Cheers

    Tom,

Good choice! We'd hate for you to be stressed in any way when you visit so here is the dinner menu for the Four Seasons.
You can leisurely consider the choices and select your meal well before you arrive. The fact that no prices are shown should give Randy cause for concern. Then again, if he sets a few hundred $$ aside every month until 2011, it shouldn't set him back too badly. ;)

    Bon appetit

    Tim-
reads like the menu at the restaurant in Vancouver-Cin-Cin - where we had dinner to celebrate our youngest son's 50th birthday the other week - nine for dinner at $160 each - then 12% HST plus tip......they did arrange a second mortgage though for ten years at 6%...so it wasn't too painful
    Cheers

Wendy just get yourself to Auckland and tell them to drop you off at Vancouver - they know where it is - but you might have to change at Hawaii ...bit boring really !

Sadly you have hit the right note inasmuch as very little is being manufactured any more in the Uk as is the case also in North America where the philosophy has been towards retail sales and manufacturing being done in China - India et al on the basis that labour costs are so much cheaper - hence the massive unemployment in both areas, which can only settle in over a very long haul !

Retail sales cannot support welfare states - especially when the profits also are exported ! !

Indeed it was a most welcoming sight after three years away - and being bossed around by what looked like an 18 year old RSM - indicating the losses we had suffered in those years - and having a laugh at the voice on the Tannoy - " hey you in the brown suit with a kit bag on his shoulder - move over and let the cars pass "
    Cheers

    So true Tom!

The pursuit of cheap labour can often have very long term effects. The tobacco farmers in the U.S. brought the first slaves to Virginia almost 400 years ago. The effects of that practice are still being felt in the U.S. and the motivation was no different than today. Labour at the lowest possible cost.
It makes you wonder how long and how severe the repercussions will be from having exported our manufacturing capacity.

Both Ontario and B.C. are feeling the effects of this madness for cheap labour with the dreaded HST - and no doubt the tax burden will be too much very shortly- as it is about to hit the 20% VAT mark in Europe - soon we will be working for Government stamps.....

Like many UK cities, Liverpool had it's own period during WWII that is referred to as the "Blitz". Ours began in late 1940 and lasted until the final air-raid on the 10th January 1942. The blitz killed over 4,000 Liverpudlians. Second only to London in casualty figures and the amount of bombs dropped.

The extensive dock system of Liverpool, Bootle & Wallasey meant the River Mersey provided a large port in the North West of England, providing direct links with America. These docks handled some 75 million tons of war material, 90% of the total shipped in from abroad.

Liverpool's location was also strategically important to the "Battle of the Atlantic", and in 1941 the Admiralty moved the HQ of the "The Western Approaches Command" from Plymouth to Liverpool.

Lived near Wrexham during the war and remember the glow of the fires in Liverpool.

Lived in Hornchurch all my life (well, so far anyway) and apart from a small local brewery not aware that much was actually made here. So someone decided to build an airfield (originally during WW1) and it grew into something of an important one. Anything to do with the brewery being on hand?
