Blimey, that Linesman thing looks remarkable: Great War Digital trench maps online.

Remembered I also got a copy of 'Went the day well', which I've just thoroughly enjoyed watching for the umpteenth time.

Adam - it is good, and I hope one day there could be a WW2 version with maps of Normandy, Bulge and Arnhem.

As for 'Went the Day Well' - absolute classic. Worth it for Thora Hurd with a SMLE...

    'Went the day well',

Adam, I remember that was one of the first things we discussed on here nearly two years ago, I was off sick from work and commented I'd just watched it.
That and me going "postal" at some poor hapless Septic teenager.

I'm happy, postie John has just delivered by copy of ATB's Blitzkrieg In The West.
Why oh why didn't I buy it years ago?

My good wife gave me a few bob so I've ordered the full set of 'Fighter Command Losses' to compliment my set of 'Bomber Command Losses'.

I'm with Dave here. Difficult to buy for. I got some money (I asked for that), shirt, book, a cd and a few other little things. I am hoping the missus has got me something for my b'day which is war related.

One of the best presents I had was the First Day on The Somme - neither chrimbo or b'day, but a thank you from the in-laws for taking them to see the missus's uncles grave in France

Because you are a silly man.
Not bad eh? I've come to the conclusion that if there's a particular aspect of the war that one gets into and an appropriate ATB big book then just buy it as it saves wading through a lot of other cheaper stuff that rarely comes close in quality.

Now that's good news for everybody ;)

Got a late pressie of some US training films relating to German weapons on DVD... weird footage of yanks firing MG34, 42, MP40 etc.

It's very good mate, isn't it? It's one of those books I kept meaning to buy - am sure it will prove very useful 'over there' this year.

I did!:p Good innit? (mind you, just one gripe about it - it doesn't have much (any?) coverage on a certain important small(ish) battle in Belgium in late May does it? Nothing does really though. Someone will have to rectify that problem soon I think.;))

I got the usual bits but no nooks. I did get money and vouchers so I have bought the following:
    • Mark Stoler Allies in War: Britain and America Against the Axis Powers, 1940-1945
    • Daniel Marston (Ed.) The Pacific War Companion: From Pearl Harbor to Hiroshima
    • Alan Levine D-Day to Berlin: The Northwest Europe Campaign, 1944-45
    • Walter Dunn Stalin's Keys to Victory: The Rebirth of the Red Army in World War II
    • Dennis Oliver British Armour in Sicily and Italy
    • John O'Connell The Effectiveness of Airpower in the 20th Century: Part Two - 1939-1945
I also got the wonderful painting:

All in all not bad methinks.
