Super collection of old photos of old Blighty, some of them shown in this video that lasts 6 min 44 sec. BBC News - What Britain used to look like from the air From sprawling factory complexes to newly built suburban streets - by way of some of the UK's top sporting venues and seaside resorts. More than 10,000 images from one of the earliest collections of aerial photography are being made freely available on the web. The Aerofilms Collection is being conserved and digitised by English Heritage and the Royal Commissions on the Ancient and Historical Monuments for Scotland and Wales. Many of the images are instantly recognisable - but the public are also being asked for their help to identify some other locations, and paint a picture of life in the UK between 1919 and 1953. Take a look at some of the photographs with Katy Whitaker from English Heritage.
Excellent find Owen, made my day. I can't wait for the actual galleries to be uploaded. I look forward to many hours spent traveling through space and time. http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/
What a great collection of views ! Really enjoyed watching them, especially of Romford near where I live. At 83, I can appreciate being reminded of how things used to be ! DENNIS L.
Good video, Owen. At the 14 sec mark, it looks like American football is being played there. What do you think? Or is it Rugby?
Great find Owen, look forward to seeing the whole sets when uploaded. Jeff, definately a rugby match @12 - 14 seconds. Looks like the white team is about to kick a penalty or conversion.

I kinda thought that. Looking at the end zones more closely, they look to be 20 yds deep instead of 10 yds. I certainly thought it unlikely that American football would be played there at that time, but odder things have happened.
Just to repeat the link Earthican gave above: Britain from Above | Rescue the Past I have tried looking through some of the photos, they are available from today, and they seem to be very good but it appears the site is experiencing some problems due to high traffic. Looks like an excellent rescource if the reliability is better. Maybe it will quieten down in a few days.
Yes, I tried to look at pics of some specific areas and was unable. I finally gave up. Maybe tonight when y'all are in bed and asleep, I will be able to.
