And so far I'm enjoying it very much. The ineptness of the Abwehr and the hapless agents they sent to Britain is at times pure black comedy.

Went back to an old classic this week, The Regiment

Farley Mowat's book about The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. Mowat served primarily in Italy as a platoon commander and later as an intelligence officer for this unit.

    Finally bought this one:

The History of the 116th Panzer Division, written by its former Ia Officer, the son of the well-known Heinz Guderian. Very thorough study of this division's battles during 1944/45 (Normandy/Aachen/The Island/Hürtgenwald/Ardennes/Rhineland and Ruhr). Few pictures and awfull maps, but nevertheless very worthwhile and over 600 pages!! Unfortunately for the anglophones: it's written in German.

I know this thread is similar to others but what are you all reading at the moment (or just finished?). And what do you think?^_^

I've just finished 'Armageddon' by Max Hastings. I thought it was very good, learnt a lot about the war in the East. I think that it was harsh on the Allies conduct of the war in the West. Also learnt a lot about Holland in the last months of the war.

Reading at the moment (lent to me by a mate at work) 'Harlequin' by Bernard Cornwall. I'm only about 35 pages in, but so far, so good.

Just finished up Downfall by Richard Frank

Just starting 'End Of The Beginning' by Tim Clayton & Phil Craig, about the summer of 1942 from Malta to El Alamein.
My wife found it and thought it would be something I would like.
    Love her.

MacDonald's "Last Offensive", which deals with the U.S. Army's post-Battle of the Bulge operations, clearing the Rhineland, Rhine crossings, encirclement of the Ruhr and final fall of Germany. This copy is a reprint of the original volume of the U.S. Army in WWII, European Theater of Operation. 556 pages, unfortunately it does not contain the large folding, coloured maps of the original volume; instead some (not all!) maps are reprinted in black&white inside the book.

Nevertheless very worthwhile reading ... bought it for only € 31,--.

Currently reading Forgotten Wars: The End of Britain's Asian Empire by Christopher Bayly, Tim Harper, which I am reading as my Dad served in the RAF in Malaya during The Emergency. I have only just started reading it, but I have learned so much so quickly about the devolution of the British Empire in Asia.

It is very interesting. I knew that Mountbatten was involved with the independence of India as the Viceroy, but I didn't realise how involved he actually was in Asia. I did understand that there was some involvement, with him being the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, but not so great.

Also I was unaware of the involvement of British forces in Vietnam, and being blamed by the Americans for the subsequent war. Trying to put that all together in my head has been complicating my thoughts, but getting there.

Thinking about getting Forgotten Armies by the same Authors.

As a side note - picked Forgotten Wars up for $15 during the closing down sale at my favourite Borders, and closest.
