Decided to spend the last month traveling the whole length of the (1917) Western Front (which may go some way to explaining my silence for the past while... I'll be getting round to replying to messages/emails, etc over the next week or so) and thought that an image of the exact spots where it started and ended might be of interest to some...

...the northern extremity near Lombartzijde (end of the line prior to 'Strandfest')...

(... plus a nice little 'surprise' for the unwary, photographed in situ before I felt duty bound to move it somewhere a little safer!)

...and the southernmost extremity. This spot took a little finding as the two June 1917 trenchmaps I had slightly disagreed with each other. However, this spot is the very end of the French line to the west of the Largue river (a mile or two east of Pfetterhouse)....beyond the clearing...Switzerland. The German lines were to the left of the photo and just across the river (the German lines continued a little further south but were unopposed (by any combatant nation)).

Nice one, Dave - and an interesting little find on the beach!
