Hi Di, I have an interest in 2733266 CSM German and was wondering where you got the info on him? Thanks, Conor

    Hi Conor,
He was mentioned in the Missing Personnel file for WG on lists of potential witnesses.

Essentially this was all I was able to extract...

2733266 C.Q.M.S. Company Serjeant Major German F. No. 3 Company, 2nd Battalion, WELSH GUARDS, May 1940.

At time of enquiry into missing men, Feb '43, he was:
Serving with 2nd (Armd Recce) Battalion, WELSH GUARDS, Fonthill Gifford, TISBURY, Wiltshire.

Thanks for that. He is proving a nightmare to look into online. As you can imagine 'German' features a lot lol

Hi Di, I've only started to look into him after picking up an item of his online. I must e-mail the WG collection. They have been very helpful to me in the past. Managed to get copies of some photos off them. HNY.

Glad to hear they are as helpful as they sound. Wish the other Gds regts would organise something similar.

Happy new year to you too! hope you were at home to enjoy festivities.

    Hi Conor
nothing on my WG spreadsheet, sorry, but it's mostly what's on here anyway.
Hopefully someone else can come up with something for you.

i came across this by complete chance, hope its helpful. my granddad is bottom left. 2734597 Guardsman CURTIS W G Welsh Guards.

I know that my granddad (Bill) was a gunner at Dunkirk, and was left behind to become a POW once the evacuation was complete. His older brother who was also at Dunkirk with a different regiment, searched the beach for Bill, to command him to get on a boat, but couldn't reach him.

Iv also heard from the son of the man sitting next to my granddad, (he is a regular customer of my dads business, and that's how i got the photo) that they had something to do with the rescue of the Dutch Royal family. But reading online the WG involvement was very last minute, so im not sure if my granddad would have been contactable to be called back from Whitsun leave. As he had family living in Leicester and London, so i dont know if there was any guarantee he was on the train at Newport.

If anyone has any information regarding this Squadron then please let me know :D
