Can anyone, please, help with details of a Wellington bomber that crashed/ crash landed at RAF St Marys in the early hours of the morning of 20th March 1945. The pilot was W/O Sawosko and the wireless operator was W/O Stendera (who suffered a head injury). The handwritten iem is not clear and the crash may have occurred at St Merryn RNAS Station. The identity of the rest of the crew, the extent of the damage, and the aircraft serial no would be very welcome. Many thanks
More detail on the above posting: According to the book "304 Squadron" by Mariusz Konarski, on 19th March 1945, Wellington Bomber NB767 (QD-L)crash landed on return from an anti-submarine mission and the crew suffered only minor injuries. It did not crash land at its base in RAF St Eval and a copy of the wireless operator/air gunner's Flying Log states that it came down at 01.55am on the 20th March 1945 at St Marys/St Merryn but the handwriting is not totally clear on the name. RAF St Marys (Isles of Silly) and RNAS St Merryn (Cornwall) are both in the immediate area. Can anyone, please, give me further help with the location of this event and the ultimate fate of this Wellington? The pilot was W/O Henryk Sawosko and the W/Op/ Ag was Jozef Stendera. The other crew members are not known. Many thanks
