Greetings, Sometime ago a lady called Mandy made a reference to a crew member of this aircraft ,Sgt Walter Gerorge Tait, belonging to the pre war Bognor Cycling Club , I am researching on the NZ Member of the crewP/O. R G Lindsay. I would be pleased if she could enlighten me more on Sgt Tait. Any information on him would be appreciated, Thanks, Arthur
To provide a x-link: http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/43144-looking-for-information-on-3-raf-casualties-from-sussex/?hl=Bognor 1255945 Sergeant Walter George Tate 104 Squadron who died 15 January 1942 and is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial They were all members of Bognor Regis Cycling Club before the war.
If you want to know more about P/O Lindsay's time at 104SQN, I would suggest chasing down the squadron histories leading up to his loss (as one source of info): http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/37124-raf-squadron-orbs-digitised-by-tna/?hl=digitised I suppose some more precise info could be obtained from the SQN ORB available for £3.36 per document from TNA. Most months have two separate files - one actual ORB showing aircraft / crews / missions and the other the appendix with narrative showing postings in & out, losses etc. For around 13 quid you could get all of the files for a couple of months and get all of the background on operations leading up to their loss.
The RAF Loss Card notes that this was their first Operation to Hamburg or Emden for W5417 and its crew. Walter George Tate (not Tait) and Adams, Cooke, 2nd pilot C K German, Lindsay, Sperring and Tate (W/Op) no further information received. Another 104 Sqdn Wellington was lost that day, over the UK (well White and Wilmot are buried in the UK) so there might be mentions in the Squadron ORB about both aircraft.
Thanks for all your replies and the correct spelling of Tate! sorry about that. What I am really after at the moment, as I have the gen on the loss of W5417, is any furthur information on Tate from this young lady ,Mandy, who posted on this site sometime ago . I am 86 and have done research for the last 40 odd years. Thanks to you all., Arthur. (An old Surrey lad).
Mandy hasn't posted here since asking after Walter but I have sent her a message (if her email is still unchanged) alerting her. Here's hoping she will respond.
Arthur has been in contact this morning by PM. Unfortunately, I didn't get anymore information on Walter Tate than is shown in the other thread. Mandy

Thanking everyone for their replies, I received the signal from Mandy, replied and it appears that she has no more gen on Tate, the other entries were quite helpful but it would be pleasing to hear more on Tates cycling days to add to his story. Well done everyone. Arthur.
