I have recently read Neitzel and Welzer's book 'Soldaten - On Fighting, Killing and Dying', which analyses the secretly recorded conversations of German prisoners of war held in British and US camps. An excellent, if at times very disturbing, read. On Page 244 they quote Wehrmacht Regulation No 2, 'it is expected of every German soldier that he prefers to die with a weapon in his hand to being captured'. I have briefly tried to find a source for these regulations but have not come up with anything. Ideas?
