Anyone going to this? It starts tomorrow and runs until Sunday. Who Do You Think You Are? Live :: Family History Show Olympia London 27th Feb - 1st Mar 2009 I will be there all weekend; you can find me on stand 618, Your Family Tree magazine, next to Ancestry. Come and say hi if you are there!
I did see the TV ads, looks interesting. I liked the bit about bring along your wartime memorabilia and get it assessed by our team of experts. Nice work. Why hasn't the forum got a stand?
Phew... still here! Yesterday was crazy; was answering questions on military history from the Peninsular War to WW2! One session was 4 and a half hours non-stop! Looking forward to a rest tomorrow!!
Nice one Paul......I did wonder where you were Have you taken shed loads of ref books with you or are you giving advice from memory? It sounds a rather interesing exhibition etc. Rather intrigued to know how the the whole set up works/ any pics? Cheers Andy
Quite an experience - bound to have met some intersting folks and heard some good accounts of family history. Exhausting - bound to be, everyone expects you to be fresh and alert , getting info from people can be difficult at times. Will there be a TV show based to follow ?
Yes, pretty tiring... and no, I don't have any reference books! The TV show is WDYTYA, James - the show is a spin-off of that.
So what's the overall impression Paul, Is the military side of the genealogy business on the upturn like the whole family history subject seems to be?
So what's the overall impression Paul, Is the military side of the genealogy business on the upturn like the whole family history subject seems to be? Some 80+% of the enquiries that came to our stand were military related. The show organisers had played down the military content this time, something a very high percentage of people who spoke to us were annoyed about.
Paul R The TV show is WDYTYA, James - the show is a spin-off of that. Know and like the show - one of those excellent productions which Beeb do so well - it sets a benchmark in what good TV is about. (For me at last). Yes, pretty tiring... and no, I don't have any reference books! That can work Paul but it takes it out of you , some people are unclear about what they know , what they want to know and what you can tell them from a cold start. To draw out what people know so you can help them and to pitch information back is often not easy - and to work like that over a wide range of topics and subjects you have to be pretty sharp on it - so credit where its due Paul.
