Nice bit of depth to that. Nice & clean too. I like it. You're getting better at drawing kit now even if you're unsure what it's called. .
Hi Owen, It's rather weird, there's a fine line between wanting to be accurate and keeping your style, too often I'm stifled by worrying about whether a uniform or a piece of kit is correct. This can kill a drawing, so I have to stop trying to produce a diagram, and let the atmosphere take over. My heroes are 4 war Artists, William Orpen & Eric Kennington (WW1) & Edward Ardizonne (WW2), Ivor Helle, The first two were fantastic draughtsmen and Ardizonne had a very brilliant and loose mastery of line, so I'm torn between wanting to emulate these heroes, which again creates conflict in my head!! Edward Ardizzone is great isn't he. I'm despreatly trying to remember a Great War classic that was written & illustrated by a chap who I've forgotten his name. He did a great sketch of an OP with a swallows nest in it. Also some Tommies in a wood in a gas attack, the limited use of line worked wonders. Sorry I forgot him.
Imperial War Museum: Edward Ardizzone - Diary of a War Artist Are you sure that it's not Edwards work? I seem to remember that it was you Owen who got me into Helles work, lovely flowing use of line with fantastic draughtsmanship underneath.
I'll have a look in my back issues of WFA's Stand To! I'm sure David Cohen has some of the chaps work I'm thinking about cos we chatted about it once.
