Ruth Goodman is in combative form – laughing like a Disney villain at the so-called friends who used to sneer at her unusual hobby.

‘People were extremely unpleasant and rude because I was so interested in re-enacting history,’ she recalls of the days when dressing up in ancient clothes and eating long-forgotten dishes was just something she did for fun.

Now she’s a TV star for doing just that. ‘Suddenly they all think it’s brilliantly exciting.’
So it’s no surprise that they’re back for a third look at farm life from yesteryear. But for the first time – after a deluge of requests from fans – they’re delving into the edges of living memory as they re-enact life on a Second World War holding. Based on a farm in Hampshire, which has been maintained in pristine 1940s condition, this may be their most fascinating show yet.

My grandma was a land girl, I'll have to let her know about this I bet she will enjoy it.

It's a shame the wartime farm in Hampshire is so far away from here, it's a bit far for her to travel at 90 but would have been nice for her to see.

Going by the previous series on the 'Victorian Farm', 'Edwardian Farm', 'Victorian Pharmacy' and 'Tales From the Green Valley', this should be a fascinating insight into farming life during wartime Britain. The previous series appear to have been well researched and clearly explained to the viewer.

Lived in a farm community in North Wales during the war. Remember the shenanigans with registering the pig population. I believe that the farmer had to register each pig born, and was only allowed so many for his family. The big fear was that the inspector would call when the slaughtered animals were hanging from the rafters, and the total wouldn't jive with the number declared. :)

Really enjoyed the first one. I always wondered how they prepared waterlogged fields for sowing etc.

Have to admit to having a very soft spot for
this trio, ever since their Victorian adventures

funny to see them fined for the blackout leak
and the very idea of burning three lightbulbs
at the same time in the same place!

Not sure, but I think that they had discontinued deportation to Australia by then. :D

Deportation! Within a couple of miles of the Country Park Farm - Probably more myth than fact:

Spike Island - Botany Bay, Sholing Common, Southampton
Apparently the name comes from the early 19th century when convicts were kept here before being transported to Australia. According to legend they were chained to spikes to prevent their escaping thus "Spike Island". The road which runs next to the common is called Botany Bay Road

H.M.S. CRICKET (Cricket Camp) - MANOR FARM COUNTRY PARK
    PART 1: July 1943 to 6th. June 1944 (part 2/3)
One marine veteran recalls seeing American Rangers playing baseball in Botley Square and records that the rivalry between American and Canadian troops sometimes resulted in "skirmishes" after pub closing time!
