AC1 McKeown may have some further information as 210 Sqdn History states: In July 1940 the Squadron moved to Oban to fly patrols over the Adlantic and in April 1941 converted to Catalinas. Seems that he would have to have been flying to be commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, so perhaps someone can come up with a loss on that date?

Apologies for bumping up an old topic, but I am curious to see if anyone has any additional information on a name on the Waringstown War Memorial. In the First World War panel is a James Campbell. I have been doing some research to find out more about him and also if there is some family connection. My searches are bring up a blank, and any references I'm finding to the Waringstown Memorial his name is only listed with no information on rank, regiment, date of death etc. Just wondering if anyone can help shed some light on this? Thanks in advance
There is indeed nothing additional about him on the Ulster war memorials site http://www.ulsterwarmemorials.net/html/waringstowm__county_down.html Pure speculation but I wonder if you've already considered this man as a possibility, despite the common enough name... http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/1605742/ CAMPBELL, JAMES Rank: Company Serjeant Major Service No: 4842 Date of Death: 09/08/1917 Regiment/Service: Royal Irish Rifles 7th Bn. Panel Reference: Panel 40. Memorial: YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL Additional Information: - He appears on Portadown Memorial; of course being on one memorial does not necessarily exclude mention on another http://www.ulsterwarmemorials.net/html/portadown__county_armagh.html From FSL's commemorative site http://www.friendsschoollisburn.org.uk/ww1/print.asp?pagehead=db CAMPBELL, CSM James. Born in Blaris, Co. Antrim, he lived at Portadown, enlisted in Belfast and served in 7 RIR (4842). KIA in Belgium on the 9.8.17, his death is commemorated on the Ypres, Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium, panel 40. This info must come from SWD, WW1 Name: James Campbell Birth Place: Blaris, Co. Antrim Residence: Portadown, Co. Armagh Death Date: 9 Aug 1917 Death Place: France and Flanders Enlistment Place: Belfast Rank: C.S.M. Regiment: Royal Irish Rifles Battalion: 7th Battalion Regimental Number: 4842 Type of Casualty: Killed in action Theatre of War: Western European Theatre Waringstown is between (birthplace) Blaris/Lisburn and (residence) Portadown I'm sure you have all this already but just in case, other James Campbells from Ireland’s Memorial Records
good day D.B.F.m,28dec.2009.05:27pm.re:waringstown memorial,co.down.a great thread.excellent photo's of memorial.you certainly put a lot of research into this post.thank you for sharing,regards bernard85
Thanks for your quick reply - very useful indeed. I had noticed CSM James Campbell and was wondering if perhaps this was the same man as per the Waringstown Memorial. I was thinking I would investigate via the Parish records if they exist if this would confirm or deny this. Thanks again.
Thanks Bernard, there's a fair few who routinely go around photographing memorials for the benefit of others' research. (I just snapped the ones nearest to me, initially to help Gerry out with his NIH project.) Most contributions can be found on these threads http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/18293-can-you-photograph-your-local-war-memorial/ http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/43425-war-memorials-outside-of-the-uk/?hl=%2Bphotograph+%2Bwar+%2Bmemorials icam, good luck with that, hope you find something.
