but did she tell you about any sunken tanks
this mk1/2 Churchill turret is on broadwater warren rspb reserve
panther on Canadian firing range
The Churchill dragged out of Stainburn is now on display outside, 40 Metres or so from the entrance of the Tank Museum at Bovingdon. I happened to drive past Stainburn when it was being recovered so I saw it, and knew what it was except it has a unusually main gun position set low. I know its at Bovingdon as I was there in September 2014 and read the plaque next to the tank and you could have knocked me over with a feather when I realised I had seen it before some years ago. If I can master the technology i will post a photo from my phone.....just don't hold yer breath
the Churchill is indeed at bovington. the unusual main gun you mention is a dummy 3 howitzer and has replaced the besa mg in order to represent a mk1 Churchill, the only surviving mk1 is at the Canadian armour museum. there's a small chance that the Churchill at stainburn moor is a mk1, we'll never know until we dig it up
i'm going up to look for the tank tomorrow so I will keep you all posted, if nothing else it will be a walk in the countryside to blow off the xmas cobwebs
myself and a couple of other fella's spent a few hours fighting through the forest yesterday on our quest to find the elusive other tank but no joy, although we did bump into a women walking her dogs that had come across it years ago in what she described as a clearing, unfortunately she couldn't remember what part of the forest.! that would have been too easy. i'll do some more research and try again maybe later this month, if nothing else it will get me in shape
went to look at an A9/A10 cruiser wreck and also found a carden loyd turret whilst browsing the web. been a good week for tank spotting
Some nice range wreck pics. A few WW2 types, & I've no idea what that Septic prototype is doing there:
