I'd like to congratulate my cousins across the pond on this date's (1547) victory over the Scots in the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, during the War of the Rough Wooing, which I assume was named by John Cleese. Apparently the Scots taunted English soldiers as "loons, tykes and heretics" but on the other hand, many more thousands Scots died in the battle. So the Scots must have thoroughly angered the English with their taunts. Of some very remote relevance to WWII, this battle is believed to be the first in which naval artillery supported infantry.
