Dang. I just realized how behind I was in WW2 Movie History. I've only seen WW2 movies from 1990+ Everything before I've just seen blips of or not even heard of. That's what I get for not being born earlier, eh?
I've only seen WW2 movies from 1990+ The GOOD thing is they pop up on Ebay on DVD for VERY little! Especially if you check ebay.co.uk....for a lot of old B&W war films are given away regulary in newspaper promotions!
My Grandma lives with me so she always watches those 1950+ War movies. She loves her War/Westerns. Thanks for the tip phylo. I'll be sure to check out eBay. But as I usually do, I'll check out CraigsList first. EDIT: I added all the favorites from Pg.1 along with the year of the film.
I think that Letters from Iwo Jima is waaaaay better than Flags of our Fathers.... does anyone agree??
I think that Letters from Iwo Jima is waaaaay better than Flags of our Fathers.... does anyone agree?? I rented Flags Of Our Fathers, but I never watched it. Anyone ever seen FlyBoys or Platoon, (I'm sure you've all seen Platoon)? There's also this new one (Probably 2001+) on the tip of my tounge. I just can't grasp it. The Americans are MIA, (Vietnam) in a camp, and are trying to escape.
Anzac was selling for at least $60 and am betting it's probably shorter version, Flyboys wasn't bad one of those stretches on actual history...

Attenborough is outstanding as the RSM. Well worth a watch. Might also consider Virgin Soldiers in the same broad class, but the latter is especially good for the National Service perspective. CS
a couple of lesser well know ones: I really rate "The Lost Battalion" its about WWI, and although it tends to get bad reviews i think the action sequences are breath taking and exhausting. also liked "brotherhood" aka "Tae Guk Gi:The Brotherhood" about the korea war some great action sequences.
One of the best, at least for me: "The Heroes" (1988) The Heroes (1988) (TV) This Australian-British co-production was based on the historical novel by Ronald McKie. In the last months of WWII, a group of 14 intrepid British and Aussie soldiers combined forces for a daring and dangerous mission. "Operation Jaywick" was designed to cripple the Japanese naval fleet in Singapore harbor. With only a few rickety wooden boats, a handful of weapons, and a surplus of guts at their disposal, the title characters set about to complete their mission and return home in one piece.
