I cannot remember the last occasion there were two films at the pictures that tempted me to leave the warm and cosy safety of my armchair. Might go mad and see them both!
Am I correct that NO Horses that went abroad during the First World War ever returned to the UK and all where put down by there handlers,.
Am I correct that NO Horses that went abroad during the First World War ever returned to the UK and all where put down by there handlers,. I'm sure the answer to that is no. My grandad looked after horses in WW1 with the Vet Corps and after seeing War Horse in London (The stage version) there was some stats given or written in the programme that stated some did come back. I might have even posted some back ground info on the Stage Version thread.

I might have even posted some back ground info on the Stage Version thread. I hope it isn't true. How sad it would be. Doesn't the UK have some fairly stick rules for quarantining animals that are entering the country, though? On a related note, I've read the that WWII forced or accelerated the mechanization of farms in the UK (Fords with Ferguson system) and that this lead to the 'retirement' of large numbers of draft animals by various means. It makes for grim reading if your a horse lover: Horses in World War I - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thanks. I had missed it.
Sort of another aside but reasonably relevant... Has anyone here ever been to see the Animal In War Memorial on Park Lane in London, W1...? It could be called a "central" location, literally being in the centre of Park Lane...! Here's a link to the site... Animals In War Memorial - The Animals In War Memorial - Park Lane, London
There's an interesting Great War statistic I've read that more forage was shipped to France than artillery ammunition!
There's an interesting Great War statistic I've read that more forage was shipped to France than artillery ammunition! Yep, they eat no matter if they are they are working or not.
Yep, they eat no matter if they are they are working or not. Kinda sums us all up at present, with the latter growing far too close to exponential...
Went to see War Horse with much anticipation and came away dissapointed. My wife described it best as a "chick flick."
I will doubtless see it eventually, though always live in fear of Spielberg's immense mawkishness. But...My brother asked yesterday if I knew anything about tanks in it, CGI or replica, and by serendipity Bovington's friendface feed provides this today: The Tank Museum We are the proud owners of a new tank – a remarkably accurate replica of a British World War One Mark IV– which was built to feature in the new Spielberg movie `Warhorse`. Follow the link to see the video. It will be on display from this coming weekend and you will be able to see it in action at this year’s TANKFEST! Meridian Regional News | Merdian Tonight - ITV Local Brilliant job.
Fine here, presumably some sort of country block. Lumbering thing, movement seems just right - doubtless other films will reach youtube eventually.
Great video. Anyone who hasn't seen War Horse should be forewarned, however - I think the tank is on screen for all of 30 seconds. Best, Alan
