Forgot to add the Ep also has WW2 veteran Al Owens in it, who is of course also a member here. So that's three WW2talk members in one programme... got to be a record!?

Didn't get to see Ep3 on TV so went to Channel 5 Player; due to an 'editing request', it's currently not avaliable.

Not sure what that is all about - it may have something to do with the adverts that are embedded in it?

A bit on the Swift and Svenner from D-Day wrecks of Normandy by Mark James attached.
Accounts are slightly different to what was on tonight's programme, no mention of Swift picking up Svenner survivors and time of Swift hitting the mine is different too. Both wrecks are still there and divable.

I watched “War hero in my family” last night.

Last night’s episode covered two “celebrities” namely David Gower and Sara Cox and I found interest in both character’s stories for completely different reasons.

David Gower was shown around Normandy by “our” Paul Reed (Well done that man , excellent commentary Paul !) and one pic below shows Paul explaining to David the use of the Jerry 88mm as an anti-tank weapon.

My second pic shows a vehicle being demonstrated to Sara as being one of those that her Grandpa would have been trained on and probably used whilst he was in the services.

It looked suspiciously like my old Bedford 15cwt Wireless Truck, perhaps Paul will tell me if I am right (or wrong) ?

As to my general thoughts on the program ?

I liked all the news clips, for obvious reasons, but found myself wincing every time the celebrity was told “This is what your Grandad/Uncle would have done”……….

“Could have done” would have been slightly more truthful?

Minor quibbles aside, it’s a good series and well worth watching

    Ron

    ps
Another minor adverse comment, although my complaint is leveled at all documentaries of this type.
Why don't they finish one story at a time, instead of jumping between the two so that we lose the thread ?

    Not your fault Paul :)
