God I'm so angry ! Two cemeteries one has aboutg 9 million graves and no ref/map guide or staff and the other didn't exsist according to the post code on my SatNav. It was a industrial estate. Fuming is a understatement ....I will find these chaps if I'm out all night ! Off to put 'Plan B' into motion.......

Andy Is this the first time you've done this sort of thing? It's not as easy as you would think. Remember the fun I had at Hither Green when looking for the plot commemorating the school. A useful tip is to look at the satellite imagery cemetery on Google Earth as this helps to get an idea of the size of the place and how long you could end up being there. They can be quite interesting places to visit as well. Cheers - Rob
I've only done the military cemetery at Shorncliffe in Folkstone and as one would expect from the military there is a guide/map with all the sections marked on the ground so identification of a section is easy. The first civvie one I visited today in short...... 'respectfully' the place was a 'bag of shit!' compared to Shorncliffe. I'll try the Shipley, Wakefield and Horbury ones tomorrow but in future I think a email to the council to confirm a headstone is there may be the route for me

A chap I went and got for Recce Mitch today was listed as having no headstone and another chap pulled a book out who over heard me and said he's listed in this as having a Military one. I'm wondering if the councils don't record a headstone but the CWGC do. I will email the cemeteries for maps and locations and go and phsically check them. Cheers

I'm wondering if the councils don't record a headstone but the CWGC do. I will email the cemeteries for maps and locations and go and phsically check them. Cheers My suspicions were confirmed today.I went back to Cottingley armed with a map and CWGC list and photographed all 42 headstones and names listed in the cemetery and crematorium. Andy
