northern daily mail west hartlepool 27 february 1946 DEATH IN MILITARY HOSPITAL the death occurred at the ronkswood emergency hospital, worcester, on monday, of l-cpl herbert gilfoyle, 5th parachute regiment, son of mr herbert gilfoyle, an ex-member of hartlepool town council. he joined up over a year ago, and was previously a clerk in the office of mr geo. edgeller, magistrates clerk, hartlepool. he was drafted to palestine, and returned in a state of ill-health to this country last friday. at the magistrates court to-day, mr r h carter referred to his passing, and expressed the sympathy of himself and colleagues with l-cpl gilfoyle's father and mother. he was a fine young man, he said, and was liked by everyone with whom he came in contact, especially because of his bright and cheerful disposition. mr g edgeller (magistrates clerk) said the news of the death had come as a great shock to him. l-cpl gilfoyle was a youth with a promising career, and he would miss him greatly. the chief constable (mr j e robinson) joined in the expression of sympathy and said l-cpl gilfoyle was highly esteemed by the police.
