Now I have finally got my act together I would be grateful if anyone could assist with providing pictures of headstones from the following cemeteries.A couple of general views of the cemetery/churchyard would also be appreciated. All now complete Regards Andy
Andy, I only came across this thread last night, but managed to take a photograph this morning just as it started to rain. Hope this response is not too late. Gef (Geoff)
Andy Sgt Taylor was killed in a flying accident at Collingbourne Ducis, Wiltshire (S/Sgt Jeffs was killed in same aircraft crash) John
This may be of interest? There is a very old cemetery in Swanage Dorset And amongst the graves are those of several service men. That is all I know/perhaps they were WW1 casualties that died ? I just do not know. Sapper
Andy, Herewith three general views of Wimborne cemetery, as per your original request. Just say if you would like the full size (3.5 - 4MB ) versions. (Geoff)
Geoff As Tom says thanks again for those, Wimborne looks very neat and tidy! That's Dorset almost complete (just added one above I hadn't put on the original list!) Regards Andy
Tom/Andy Curram's death certificate is interesting. It shows that he died of a TB related illness but his occupation is shown simply as a "General Clerk" - no mention of any military connection. At the time of death he was at 84 Southbourne Road, Bournemouth and his death was registered by an "Inmate" from that address. Was this a TB hospital or similar? His home address is recorded as 32 Alington Road, Dorchester. Nearly all of the other CWGC deaths that occurred in the UK that I've looked into have shown their military unit and number. John
John, It looks as though D. D. Curram died in Stourfield House, Southbourne Road, Bournemouth. "Stourfield House was opened as a grammar school in 1894 but when the educational facilities moved a few years later, the building was enlarged and became the Home Sanitorium for consumptive patients, where it faced onto Beaufort Road. In 1923 the hospital was acquired by the British Legion and renamed Douglas House. After the war it came under the NHS, but in 1989 the Home closed and it was mostly demolished. Like the Cheshire Cat’s smile, all that remains of this nearly 250-year old house is the original external staircase." …the above taken from this article by John Cresswell: Stourfield House Another informative article with a dozen or so photographs of Stourfield House by 'Bournemouth Grant': THE FORMER STOURFIELD HOUSE.
