Anyone going to the IoM ...Or is there any Airborne nut out there got this chap in their collection? Cheers Drew, Major Robert Henry Cain VC, was cremated at Worth Crem, in Crawley Sussex, and his ashes interred in the Family grave at Braddan Cemetery, Isle of Man, but his name was never added to the headstone. Cain, didnt take advantage of his VC post war, never even telling his daughter (Frances Catharine - Clarksons now wife), who only found out about his award after his death. Post the War, Cain went back to work for Shell, and spent many years out in the Middle East, Far East and Asia, only returning to the Isle of Man (Where he grew up, having been born in Shanghai) in 1965, before passing away from cancer in 1974. The grave is still unmarked today, but a contact that I made in the Manx Geneology Society is going to make a second attempt to get a photograph, having being unsuccesful the on the 1st attempt. Hopefully have it in the next day or two, with Spidges RAAF lads following next week. Phil
Cheers Phil, I was aware that Cain was a modest man - I have a DVD docu about VC's presented by Clarkson who said at the end of a piece and after spilling the beans he was related to Cain by marriage he said they never knew he was awarded a VC until his death. Clarkson was obviously very proud. A photo of where the ashes were scattered would be brilliant Phil ! Regards Andy

Regards Andy According to the Graveman (Manx terminology), his ashes were buried in the family plot, but his name not added, so Margaret is going to do a photo of the family headstone. I remember the program well, the phrase at the end from Clarkson, "and that Man was my Father in Law"..... THere are a number of memorials names after him, a chapel in the Hospice at Douglas, and a Schlarship role at his old college (King Williams) His medal, beret and Smock are at the Staffordshire Regimental Museum at Lichfield. A commerative coin was also launched on the Isle in 2006 P
Geoff, all received last night and forwarded by email. Andy, Cain's should be with me tonight P Thanks Phil, All received and catalogued and email of thanks sent. Cheers Geoff
