Spidge, Realise this thread was posted a long time ago. I can take photos of all of the graves you mention if you still require them. I am a serving soldier, currently working in Sudan, also acting as the Honourary Supervisor of the cemetery. Am happy to be of assistance. Also if any other members require photos of a specific grave in the Khartoum cemetery please send me a message. Best regards, Carl
Hi Carl Welcome to the Forum., Just a quick question .Theres no Durham Light Infantry recorded by the CWGC but would you know if there are any pre-war DLI at the cemetery 1935-37 ish ? Thanks

Thanks I couldn't swear by it but I'm sure I've seen at least one. There are quite a few from the Shropshire Light Infantry. Will get back to you on that one. Carl

Can you print the klist off here okay? A couple of the cemetery would be most welcome as well if you can manage it. To quote my dear Mum, "All good things come to those who wait"! Soldiers seem to be my lifeline on a few "difficult' areas. Received the photos of the smashed headstones from Habbaniya War Cemetery in Iraq from an Aussie soldier. Cheers Geoff
What? Miguel.............You sound surprised! And after you taking all those photos for me/us in Portugal, I thought nothing would surprise you. The Aussie flyers really liked to travel! RIP lads

No need for the list, I know the graves you mention very well. I was actually at the cemetery yesterday chatting with some aussies and canadians about them. Scary coincidence. How would you like to receive the photos and what sort of quality do you want (i.e. do you need me to compress them)? Carl

Were the Aussies tourists or UN or similar? Cheers Geoff

I know I live in a pretty peripheral country, but at least there were more trees in that graveyard than there may possibly be in the entire Sudan Poor lads, so far away from home. At least their remains are looked after.
They were teachers from one of the international schools here. There is a small contingent of Aussie Military personnel in various positions within the UN here. We socialise together quite regularly. Will hopefully have some photo's for you by the end of the day.
Thanks Carl.Thats appreciated. Verrieres, Well my 7 year old daughter and I walked the lines of headstones this afternoon in search for any DLI fallen. I can pretty much confirm that there is only one officer of DLI origin laid here in Khartoum. When he died he was RAF. He died in 1920. I have attached a link to a biography I found online and also a photo of his headstone. Best regards, Carl DLI

Thanks Carl.Thats appreciated. Hi Carl, Hi-Res by email would be great if you can manage it. Were the Aussies tourists or UN or similar? Cheers Geoff Hi Geoff, Have sent you an email with all of the below pictures (and more). Uploading high Res via Sudanese Internet is proving difficult. I have managed to compress maintaining as much quality as possible. More to follow! Carl
