Hi Spidge - not trying to hijack the thread, but it looks like klambie has sorted out all of the required grave shots (well done klambie).

As you know, I’m trying to square away the causes of death for all RAAF WW2 casualties and two of the guys I am struggling with are buried in Sri Lanka.

Hopefully you might have something on these two, but failing that maybe klambie can offer some assistance (I assume that he is in Sri Lanka).

    cheers

    Dave

CARDNO, William Guyan - (Sergeant) 404012

AHQ India / 11SQN RAF - Wireless Air Gunner (extra info from AWM pdf) Archives do not hold a RAAF Casualty file (cannot find on rafcommands)

"To oppose this air and sea armada, Colombo was defended by the two Hurricane squadrons. The only bombing force was XI Squadron’s Blenheims. There was a further Hurricane squadron (261) a long way away at Trincomalee on the other side of the island."

    *******************************************************************

DICK, Norman Henry - (Flight Lieutenant) 277483

Accidental (Ground Accident) (Cause of death from AWM ROH) / Place - Mount Lavinia, Ceylon

"For a swim in the sea we could go five miles down the coast to Mount Lavinia, one of the many long stretches of unspoilt, sandy, palm fringed beaches. The sea was warm enough to bathe in all year round."

During World War II the Mount Lavinia hotel was used as a military hospital by the British Army.

    Hi Dave,

Kevin is listed as being in Canada. Well travelled as he also supplied the RAAF requirements in Kenya this week.

    Cheers
