Now I have got my act together I wonder if anyone is able to assist with pictures from the following cemeteries. Pictures of the headstones and a few general views of the cemetery would be appreciated.

    Delhi War Cemetery (18)

    Gauhati (3)

    Kirkee War Cemetery (15)

    Madras War Cemetery(6)

If anyone can assist I will provide the details of each casualty

    Regards

    Andy

When cremated ashes are poured into a river (which one depends on your religion), I doubt any sort of "grave" type markings would have been made for those cremated but I will definitely help look when I get home.

    Cheers,

I'm familiar with religious cremations but wondered if there was a permanent plaque/marker in the crematorium due to them winning a VC.

Bare in mind some of the above do have graves too.

    Regards

    Andy,

Hindu and Sikhs are cremated and do not erect 'grave stones' as memorials. Their ashes are either immersed in river or just scattered in an agricultural field. However, in some Rajput clans there is a tradition of erecting a 'Chattri' in the village. See http://www.chattri.com, the white structure is a Chattri.

As for the Muslims, they bury their dead no grave stones or markers are put. Essentially, with time the grave should not be identifyable. Since Abdul Aziz was in the Army, he has a grave stone because it was the standard practise of the British to commemorate the war dead irrespective of the religion.

    Hi Sushil,

Thanks for the info, I was pretty much aware of that already though. These men are rather exceptional though as they have won the Victoria Cross so I'm looking for any form of commemoration plaque or a photo of where they were cremated.

I don't suppose you can help with the chaps in Imphal or Kohima ?

    Regards
    Andy

    Hi Verrieres,

    Thank you for the photo.
