Hi D No mate, I have no photographs, I lost the one I did have. Jock was my best mate. Oddly he was killed far away from his resting place. Even odder.. we had stopped earlier on our way North towards Arnhem at The Monastery at Euvelwegan, where the white brothers in their long white robes were being trained by Nuns. We stopped one day and night, we had run out of everything and others had passed through to continue the drive North. That night we set up a social evening with the Monks, and we all did our party pieces. My Sgt.. Sgt Rees had a wonderful voice. We lost him at Overloon along with another group of NCOs and officers. All in one mighty explosion when a mortar dropped in amongst the hundreds of Regal mines they had lifted. I had just left, about a minute away, No I have never returned to the scene of past battles, I cannot visit one without the other. That means a long road from Sword to Bremen, For they all fell by the wayside on that long road. But I do remember them....Every day! Besides I am very severely banged about. Sapper
Hi Sapper, Then perhaps some kind soul who would be visiting MAARHEEZE (STERKSEL MONASTERY) could get you a replacement photo for the one you have mislaid. My father told me once of a similar explosion he witnessed. A lorry full of Tellar mines was hit by a shell. He had just looked over at two guys chatting in a jeep next to it, one sitting having a smoke with his feet up on the dash, his comrade at the wheel. No warning. Shrapnel killed a Mick Dad had just talked to. After the explosion they checked for the occupants of the jeep, said they didn't even find a bootlace. To this day he has the before and after scenes in his memory. Been trying for ages to trace these men's names for him, sadly too many possibilities on the Groesbeek Memorial. The other day I showed Dad new photos I got of Micks he knew. Hard for him, he never revisited any battlefield. All in his head. Regards, D

When a huge mine explosion takes place, it is not unusual to find nothing. IN some cases there may be gravestones ...BUT? sapper
Same thing happened during Market Garden with a group of US Paratroopers. They were unloading a truck with ammo when it was hit by a German tank. The Americans still have them officially listed as Missing In Action, though. terrible thing.
