War Diary query - 11th Hussars Italy, 1943

  1. Knowing a few of the folks here are familiar with the War Diaries held at Kew, I thought I'd pick their brains on an obscure subject...

The WD for the 11th Hussars is available over at the ***World War II, a British focus*** site, and mentions a re-organisation of the Regt in the interlude between the end in North Africa and the landings in Italy proper. The entry for 9th Sep 1943 gives a good overall description courtesy of A Sqn.

    The 11th Hussars, (Prince Albert's Own), 1943

A re-organisation of this type would normally have been authorised in a War Establishment Table, in this case almost certainly issued in the Middle East series (Volume VI). Problem is, there isn't one listed in the National Archives holdings (WO24 series) for it. There are gaps in the Volume VI WE Tables held at Kew, and this appears to be one of them.

My understanding is that, on occasion, copies of the WE Tables would be kept with a unit War Diary. So, I was wondering if anyone had seen the 11th Hussars WD first hand, and might recall whether there was a WE Table along with it? It's something of a long shot I know, but I specialise in those it seems...

It's possible that 11th Husars were the only Armd Car Regt to adopt this particular WE, and it would fill in a gap in my collection of these records if I could obtain a copy.

    Thanks,

    Gary
