Hello Dave I would be grateful if you could let me have anything on the Beauman Division. From what I've pieced together it seems my grandfather was at an Infantry Reinforcement Depot on 21 May 1940 when troops from the depot were used to form Vickforce which subsequently became B Brigade of the Beauman Division. According to his service record he was evacuated on 13/14 June 1940. Many thanks Rob

Many thanks Rob I've just checked and there doesn't appear to be any diaries for Beauman units in the WO 167 series which I find rather odd. However there is a file on Perowne's Rifles though which was part of Vicforce.

Many thanks Rob I've just checked through my war diary collection and I have found 5 diaries to date related to the Beauman Division. None of the diary names match B Brigade though. Edit: Make that six
None of the diary names match B Brigade though. 'Newcomb's Rifles' were the 3rd Provisional Battalion of B Brigade so you do actually have something to do with B Brigade, Andy! most of the entries I have relate to this particular unit though there are some general stuff on the formation and organisation of beauman's Div. If I recall correctly, I didn't obtain these diaries from WO167. Anyway, i'm struggling to find time to maintain this thread so, Andy, please feel free to take it over if you wish (you've got all the diaries I've listed anyway!:p) Dave
Oh thanks Dave I may as well add this link to this thread: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/unit-documents/28058-bef-war-diaries-wo-167-series.html
Oh thanks Dave You're quite welcome. Enjoy!:p Dave PS... 4 OBLI for 26/27/28 May would be very helpful. Pete, try this thread...http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/1940/24647-battle-cassel-1940-research.html
Lads, pardon my ignorance on this, but how do one look up, gain access to or request information on a war diary? My reason for asking is that I am interested in some information on a particular incident,on a particular day involving a particular person. Thanks in advance for any help.Alan.
Croonaert Thank you. We have used the info to accurately locate the place of death of a soldier of 4 OBLI, for which his family are very grateful. Regards Pete

Hi Alan, Unit War Diaries and other military files from all three services are held in main at the National Archives in Surrey. You can visit and copy or read them. If you're lucky someone may already have what you are looking for, saving you a visit. There is lots of info posted here: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/research-material/15595-national-archives-kew-tips.html Regards Andy

Hi I am a newbie and have really been enjoying the forum and have followed some of the great links posted. I would love a copy of the diaries May 1940 for the 8th Royal Warwicks. I am trying to trace the service history of my late uncle (his records dont have much detail!) and thought he was always in 1/6 Queens but have discovered 1939-1942 he was in 8th Btn Royal Warwicks. A wee copy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Celia
Hello Celia and welcome to the forum. Here's the diaries you asked for-Why not start a thread in the 1940 section of the forum with what you know so far and any pictures-I'm sure a few of us maybe able to add something View attachment 40130 View attachment 40138
Wow! thank you so much for the diaries and also your quick response...you are very kind. I have downloaded them but have to work today (groan) but cant wait to have a read through tonight...oh joy! I have only recently started researching my late uncles service and have learned more from members on this forum in the last two weeks than I did trawling through websites in the last six months...thank you all. I hope to start a wee thread or two as you suggest....you will probably all get sick of my questions in the end. Thanks again. Celia
No problemo..Bare in mind this is only for the month of May which is only part of the diary. The national archives will have from deployment until the battalion arrived back in the UK-Usually June 1940.
Hi. I have just come across the site and this discussion, so, I'm not sure if your offer still stands, or not? If it does, I am trying t0 trace the war diary of 2DCLI during the withdrawal to Dunkirk. Particularly the period 27 May - 4 june 1940 and any reference o the circumstances surrounding the death of a stretcher-bearer, Bandsman John E Bailey. If you can help, I'd really appreciate it. Regards Derek
Hi Derek and welcome to the forum. Any reason why you want as early as the 27th when Bailey died on the 1st June? Bailey must have been seperated from the battalion because on the 1st June they were at La Panne. CWGC :: Certificate Cheers Andy
Hi, I wonder if anyone has access to WO 167/801 Bn War Diary 7RNF Apr-May 1940, or are there any 51 Highland Div decendants out there with info connecting 7RNF to their Bns/Bdes.
