    Hi,

can anyone explain this return which I found in the Daily Signal Log of 505 Fd Coy (50 (N) Div for 12 July:

    ABC RETURN. With unit B11 H4 J1 K1 M5 P1 R3 W4 Z21 AL3 AQ4 BB9 BL60 BD16 BE8 BJ13 BK24 BL350 BM240. Not yet arrived B3 J2 L2 M2 AE2 BC1 BN4. Mercedes benz 3 ton 1. Comer 5 cwt van1. BMW m/c combination 1. A.G. half track 1 (auto union).

I'm guessing that some of the entries refer to weapons, some to vehicles, etc.

    Any ideas gratefully received.

    Regards

    Tom

Could well be radio code similar to Slidex which was changed on a regular basis to pass info on vehicles, ammunition etc. Required the relevant cards & start point to decode.

    Dave,

Thanks, you are the first person to suggest anything. I've seen a similar code referred to before in one of the Corps REME war diaries but IIRC that was to record tank strengths or crock states. Perhaps I should go back to that and have another look. Other than that, maybe I could try a museum, I guess.

    Regards

    Tom
