    ANNIVERSARY
28TH NOVEMBER 1899 - BATTLE OF MODDER RIVER
1st and 2nd Battalions forming part of the GUARDS BRIGADE, were engaged in this Battle. The Boers, who were lining the river bed, and were well concealed, held up the attack which had to be carried out across level ground with no cover. 1st Battalion under Colonel CODRINGTON was sent to protect the Right Flank, but was stopped by an unreconnoitred river, half way through the day some men of the 2nd Battalion were withdrawn to support a flank attack on the Left, which had succeeded in crossing the river. Throughout the whole day both Battalions lay in the open under a blazing sun, being fired at by an invisible enemy. At dark they were withdrawn and reformed in readiness to attack again next day, but at dawn it was found that the Boers had withdrawn because of the threat to their Right Flank.

    Hi,

    Brilliant work!

I wonder if you have the diary for Jan 45 - May 45? I am researching a man who was killed on 1st May 1945 - Guardsman Ronald Moore. I have been given some info on another thread and I am planning a trip to Kew to view the diary for this date, but any further help would be appreciated.

    Regards
