Cool. There might be some more detail in the war diaries. 71 Bde is WO 171/655: H.Q. | The National Archives
There are a couple of guys on WW2Talk who might be able to get you copies.

  2. Oh that would be great! Thanks ! Here is a photo taken in my village on September 6, 1944... Photos yesterday and today. Source : Mémoires de la société d'histoire de Comines-Warneton et de la région, Tome XVI, p. 525.

  3. Hello AOK4, maybe do you have some info in the War Diaries about Armentières ? Ploegsteert ? Bizet ? Warneton ? Comines ? during the day of 6 September 1944 ? :)

I might have Feb 45. That'll give you an idea of whether they're useful. PM me and I'll have a look when I'm back by my hard drives next week.

Hi Guys, my late father in law was in Welch 1/5th B Company until 9th April 1945. I would be very interested in any info. I have ordered some documents too and would happily share once I receive them. Thanks

Thanks for the correction. Would you kindly advise me if my research should start B Company or Welch 1/5th? Thank you.

    His Battalion.

    1/5th Welch Regt.

    It's incorrect to say " Welch 1/5th."

Owen, may I remind you as a Veteran myself that not everyone has the military knowledge or terminology such as ourselves. Maybe try helping others instead of constant correction. Maybe you don't understand yourself how forums work but they're typically for research purposes and helping each other. Lets try that considering both of your replies to Jayne were of no help.

I was trying to help her to use the correct terminolgy.
I do know how forums work as I've been helping to run this place since 2007.

If I may, it pays to tread lightly in the forum Henry, especially if you are seeking help. Many will have seen your post to Owen and potentially could decide on the basis of it not to rush to help you. This would not be a good result for you I surmise.

Just seemed a bit untasteful to be on to someone's case surrounding their knowledge on something so particular, looks like passive bullying. If there are people who are not willing to help and almost bully someone then I am in the wrong forum

Questions were asked and answered. No getting on someone's case, no judgement about their level of knowledge, just help. I see no complaint in the above quote and getting terminology correct will also help with searches.

You haven't been a member for long, so I suggest you hang around a bit longer, read threads other than this, take note of the glowing referrals from elsewhere on the internet, read the thanks from those who've been helped, mark the patience in helping newcomers (who we all once were) and then form a more balanced opinion. Owen corrected similar errors on my part when I first joined up and I'm still around 15 yrs later. ;)

Let's please get back on topic now.
