I'm looking to buy a British No38 set in reasonably good condition, ideally with it's web harness.

Can anyone suggest a good source for getting one?

Thanks for that Adam - hadn't seen that site.

There was, I'm told, a set complete with all accessories at War And Peace - for a rather silly price. I've had a main unit for 42 years (!!!) and it was several years in my youth before I discovered it was also a transmitter! I blew up the valves one day and got a replacement set next day for around 5p each (old money) per valve. Those days are gone. I once had a headphone/throat mic assembly but did not realize at the time what it was. Now gone (teenagers are idiots). I understand the accessories are hard to get in good condition. The power cable on mine has crumbled badly in the last few years. I keep meaning to get it running, I have half built a power supply inverter for it. It is an amazing design, electronically. Mine is a Mk III which is in a sealed box (I believe the other marks may have been) which is a better option than the horrid 'tropicalizing' treatment.

You could try a post on the WS No. 19 Wireless Group - It's a Yahoo group, I'm a lurking member. Some very helpful chaps on there. - ... I see Adam has already mentioned...

    cheers,

    geoff

(Two similar but different websites... has there been a schism? )

The Yahoo group is a Forum. I believe members have some access to the Royal Sigs (owned?) archive at the other place.

I have spoken to a friend of mine who in his spare time buys and sells militaria, he says he saw a friend of his with some down at Beltring this year for £300, in his words 'mad money'. I have left a message asking if he still has any, but obviously don't know what your budget is! nor if they had a web harness either!

    Regards

    ..... £300, .....

So he missed the other one, a complete kit except battery for £850.

Junction boxes are usually missing... one without junction box was offered to me for £220ish. At the end of the day, I think we could most likely repro the junction box/valves (something I've been musing on for a while) as they are pretty uncommon. £220 (incomplete) for most of a set - £300 seems to be the going rate but I've heard stories of far higher.

Thanks for all the posts - am following a few leads at present but it is hard finding one in reasonable condition. Most look like they have been kicked round Normandy!

Thanks Andy - appreciated. Sorry to be picky but I also need a 1945 or before dated one.

Just picked up one here in NZ, just the unit with no harness or accessories, which appear to be very hard to find. I've also been looking for a set of headphones for my Mk I British (or Polish) mine detector for about five years!
