Found a grave in Goole Cemetery today.

    Walter Butler M.C. 1893-1954

Can anyone tell me when and why he was awarded this? Unfortunately the library is closed for renovation for 6 weeks so I cannot look at the old newspapers.

    Thank you.

I think I may have found him in the London gazette, Jan 1919.

No mention on the date or location of the action, but he was with 2nd KOYLI.

Thanks very much for that TTH. Great find.
I will look in the local newspaper when the library re-opens in a few weeks and have a look around the date of 11/1/1919 and check where he got his M.C.

    Thanks again

He got the immediate award of the MC for his role in 2/KOYLI's capture of Herleville on the morning of August 23rd 1918.
