I was a bit amazed at Kew today, working on one of my favorite little known units SAARF (Special Allied Airborne Reconnaisance Force) made up of British, American, French, Belgian and Polish veterans of SOE, OSS, SAS etc, both male and females were included in the unit. A group of 4 British WAAFs who had served as agents in France had volunteered for SAARF (including Paddy O'Sullivan) however the Air Ministry ruled that they were not allowed to deploy as henceforth all WAAFs were to be deemed non-combatant - From what I recall the ladies went anyway after the German surrender and were involved with POW and KZ survivor rescue as well as looking for war criminals.
Jedburgh, very interesting and appreciate the unique point. Would you have any recommendations for reference on these ladies, especially any demonstrating their participation, pictures, ID, etc.? Thanks, M.
One of the SAARF ladies was the British F Section Agent Paddy O'Sullivan a couple of the others were Belgian Section Agents
