Just received from the Vulcan Trust.
    After the appeal for funds
    They have received £415,000.
    The requirement was £400,000.

They can now carry out the winter service programme to keep XH558 airworthy for the 2011 season.

they are requiring mores funds to build up a reserve for future requirements
Fantastic news CL1, was watching a documentary on Britains V Force on Discovery History. Wouldnt have fancied being a bomber crew in the early 60's facing the possibility of penetrating Soviet airspace in order to bomb Moscow or Leningrad.

Ger yes i saw that very interesting

re the funding it appears to be a 6 monthly event chasing a large pot of money to keep all the staff on.
The monies required are vast to keep her flying.
not sure if long term funding will ever become available though

I agree with you on the funding part I already feel as though I own at least one wing and will grumble like hell whilst stumping up again.
Then cheer like mad when I see it fly
What we need is a Bill Gates to donate heavily on this one!

Update from the Vulcan Trust March 2011

Funding received via appeals enabled 2011 winter service to be completed and ready for the 2011 season.

    Quote from the flyer

"However ,dark clouds have arrived .In January ,British VAT regulations became aligned with the EU's with the unwanted effect that the aircraft parts and services, which previously attracted no VAT ,now costs us and extra 20%.This is taking a significant bite out of our cashflow."

We look like running out of financial resources in April 2011.

£350,000 required by the end of May to ensure XH558 arrives on the air show circuit with stable finances.

I just wonder how much longer the public will do this, there just seems to be one plea after another and quite often it seems to be due a little short sightedness on the part of the operators.

I'm a little confused at this statement, they are a business with a turnover of than £70,000 so must be vat registered therefore they will get a cheque back for any vat that they have paid out surely:huh:

    ....thats how it normally works:)

On flight days it pays to check up XH558 Twitter. Last year she was heading to the channel islands when spotters were tracking her progress, somebody must have been listening in as people were saying that Southampton airport was asking for a low level fly by. Sure enough she was soon circling over Southampton and lining up for a low pass. before going on her way. Many videod and placed on YouTube.

    There's a diamond Jubilee due?
Please tell me I won't have to wear tights again - the silver one led to a childhood 'incident' involving some fancy dress, and a very stubborn small me...

I assume enough money has been gathered for these flights. Maybe the queen should pay.

It has just been announced on BBC Look North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire that they require half a million pounds to "service and overwinter" the Vulcan to get her ready for the Queens Diamond Jubilee next year and to keep her in the air.
They have announced that they will be organising hangar tours for visitors up to Christmas from her base at Doncaster Robin Hood Airport.
