A Vulcan Cold War bomber which is being restored in Wiltshire has been saved after the project received an anonymous donation of more than £400,000. BBC News - RAF Lyneham Vulcan Cold War bomber is saved
Craig, That is great news, there are not many planes that command the attention of the Vulcan when it performs a Flypast! Regards Tom
These Aircraft are just Money pits , Its gone past being a rich man's hobby like some of the smaller warbirds , Everyone likes to see the planes flying but realistically their days are numbered , due to the financial climate , I feel the Days of civil owned big aircraft are over ... the only big ones to be seen flying will be current Civil Airline or modern Military fly pasts costs will preclude anything else unless there's a wealthy Arabian or Russian oligarch in the background ....
Vulcan XH588 For years My Friends and I supported the restoration to flight status, to see it fly again at Fairford last year was amazing it was as though each persons donation was charged into that flight. It was flown by Martin Withers of Black Buck fame on the day, but how long can we keep dredging up the funds to keep it going especially in the recession we now have. We need either a miricle or an avaition history flight supported by the tax payer so come its election time bend the candinates ears!

But it costs so much.

Agree Oldman I joined the Vulcan to the Skies Trust donkeys years ago giving a few quid here and there.
Comment Guys for my formative years I was lucky or unlucky enough to live on a low flying air corridor each day we would see the vulcan bombers flying over on their way to patrol, in between we would get fighters of all discription, transports including the Blackburn Beverly and Jet Provosts from the training flights. Even got the B52's during the bombing competions. It is part of my early life and as such I have an interest thats why I have supported XH558. The other grouse is they will not let them fly the Lightening under CAA cover a shame
Agree. I love seeing it fly and at Waddington it was fantastic. But it costs so much. I agree it is great to see the aircraft flying and the cost is understandable however my concern is that Joe public will tire of the continual desperate pleas for cash. I would hope that the VTTS team are looking for a long term funding solution. Nick
Owen, you lucky, lucky man. The last time I saw the old bird flying was probably about 1983. I saw the last Lightning display and the last Buccaneer display. I hope there never is a "last" Vulcan display. Long may she continue to fly.

Just received a letter from the Vulcan to the Sky trust They require £400,000 to get the Vulcan to 2011 and they currently have £75,000 which is enough to get them to the end of this month. They have given their staff one months notice. Says that without this the aircraft will be sold ,possibly to Russia or USA interested parties.

Just seen a tweet about this - think they've achieved the target...
Just received from the Vulcan Trust. After the appeal for funds They have received £415,000. The requirement was £400,000. They can now carry out the winter service programme to keep XH558 airworthy for the 2011 season. they are requiring mores funds to build up a reserve for future requirements
Craig, That is great news, there are not many planes that command the attention of the Vulcan when it performs a Flypast! Regards Tom For many years the RAF always sent a Vulcan to perform at the CNE Airshow in Toronto. It was always a crowd favourite. I did have the unfortunate experience of witnessing an RAF Nimrod crash into Lake Ontario during the 1995 show. A sobering event to say the least.
