I am scheduled to go to Kohima and Imphal next month. I am happy to undertake small tasks, for example, taking photos of a particular grave or something similar. If there is anything else, please let me know and I will do my best. maddogkincaid
Hi, thank you for your offer. If possible I would like to get photos of the following 4 graves. I have photos of the temp markers and am hoping that they have now been replaced with permanent ones. Corporal HENRY VINCENT FARLEY 8. G. 4. Temp Marker Corporal WILLIAM GEORGE SAVILL 8. G. 3. Temp Marker Corporal RICHARD ERIC SEWART 8. G. 5. Temp Marker Trooper REGINALD SPENCER 8. H. 3 Temp Marker Cheers Paul
I'll do my best. I assume the numbers 8.G.4 etc are references within the Comm War Grave at Kohima.. maddogkincaid
maddogkincaid, yes and I think that they are all fairly close together with 3 next to each other and 1 in the next row. Have attached map from CWGC. Cheers Paul
Hi maddog, This is a very king offer, I'm in a similar position to Paul really. My men are: Lieutenant John Francis Pickering, Royal Sussex Regiment. Grave reference 11.A.24 at Kohima War Cemetery. Private George Sullivan, Kings Liverpool Regiment. Grave reference 11.A.25 at Kohima War Cemetery. Private Eric Owen, Kings Liverpool Regiment. Grave reference 9.D.24 at Imphal War Cemetery. Anything you can achieve would be most appreciated. Many thanks. Steve
I have all those 3 men Steve. Contact me - nt872b(at)hotmail.com - with their details and service numbers and I'll send the images to you. Bucklt
Hi Steve and Buckit, I will try and have a look and take some photos anyway for Steve. It doesn't hurt to have more than one view. maddogkincaid
Maddog I have just sent you a PM with my request. Thanks in anticipation and have a good trip! Regards Andy
To all who are concerned, I can report that the Commonwealth War Graves continues to do a wonderful job in keeping the cemeteries at Kohima and Imphal in great condition. They remain moving and beautiful places. There was one thing I saw at Kohima which I think would be easy to overlook, if like us, you did not have a guide. It is the notice next to a tree which marks the furthest incursion of the Japanese. I attach a photo of the sign. I also visited the war memorials at Kanglatombi and S(h)angsak and they too are well looked after. I will post the requests separately.
In view of the problems I have had attaching photos, perhaps the people who requested photos could send me a PM and I will send them the photos directly. maddogkincaid
We were also able to recreate the meeting on the Kohima- Imphal Road with the help of imphalcampaign. maddogkincaid
Looks and sounds like you had a very successful trip. Thank you for posting the images and for photographing individual memorials for us. Steve
