I wonder if anyone can help me? On a tour of Omaha beach some years ago a friend of mine said that his experienced guide had referred to the German machine gun posts covering the beach as 'vipers nests'. I haven't been able to find this term used to describe the MG positions anywhere and I was wondering if anyone else on here had heard this term used and if so where it may have originated?

    Thanks and best regards

Had he misheard 'weiderstandsnest' (resistance nest)?

Much like I've probably misspelled it...

    Sheldrake All over the place....

    Vipers nest sounds suitably nasty,
