"Downton Abbey" Episode #2.2 (TV Episode 2011) - Plot Summary - IMDb "April 1917. With John still absent, Isobel's butler Molesley makes a play for Anna but is rejected. Robert gets a new valet, shell-shocked ex-soldier Henry Lang, whilst William goes off to war. Edith learns to drive a tractor extremely well, and nearly succumbs to a kiss from the married farmer Mr. Drake." On 14th February 1917, from a debate in Parliament. "Agriculture (Motor Tractors) 62. Sir THOMAS ESMONDE asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if motor tractors for agricultural purposes are liable to tax and, if so, whether he will suspend it for the present; if he will suspend the petrol tax on petrol for agricultural purposes; if he will suspend the import duty on imported American motor tractors for one year to enable tillage to be carried out as rapidly as possible, in view of the fact that in many tillage districts the severe weather has prevented ploughing practically since Christmas? Mr. BONAR LAW The hon. Baronet will, I think, find that motor tractors and motor spirit used for the purposes referred to are not charged with these duties. Sir T. ESMONDE What about the import tax on American vehicles? Mr. BONAR LAW The import tax does not apply to motor vehicles used for such purposes as these." https://hansard.parliament.uk/Commo...-a616-6e65f1a907de/Agriculture(MotorTractors)
Just seen this photo up my Mum's with a couple of my Uncle's tractors that I once drove . Leyland in background & a Nuffield in front. With my sister & eldest niece maybe 91 or 92 .
Another nice image from the past Owen. I was going to post some other tractor images I had from work, when I was involved in teaching teenagers with learning difficulties on work experience placements, but data protection etc etc. So best not I think.
Machinery and other bits seen yesterday in a field to the south-west of the area used for RAF Castle Camps during the war, either in Essex or Cambridgeshire, under the south west end of where runway 14/32 was. There were signs just saying "Tractors" and "Car Park" and so just walked in. Nice autumn day, it rained later. Above Hedge to North-East plus Model T van Tractors being driven up and down Big business ! Not quite so straight Big cushion for the operator Front end More Ford Massey-Ferguson
Not quite in line with the thread, but I built this for my grandson's train set a number of years back.

SEPTEMBER 13th 1962: an iconic photo, taken by Jim Meads - capturing the moment when 15-year old farmhand Mick Sutterby ejects from his Fordson Super Major tractor George Aird, taking his English Electric Lightning for it's daily taxi over farmland, looks on in disbelief Sorry Owen
This is the most viral nerd thing I've encountered on Twatter. 50% laughing knowingly. 50% not understanding and thinking it's a thing. Splendid.
Crossed the Finnish/Swedish border on foot at Pello today & saw this little Massey in Sweden. Old SAAB 900 in background.
