VIDEO - US Army 14th Major Port Transport Corps at Southampton - World War Two - All, I have reposted this video because I have added new film of Southampton. The film includes US troops loading a LcT at Embarkation Hard S4 at Northam on the R Itchen. The US 3rd Army loaded at the Eastern Docks and a sweep of both Western and Eastern Docks, on the R Test. I have tried to tidy up my narration also. Many thanks, Kip Miller PS I hope this helps!

All, The narration mentions Strikes in the Docks in Southampton caused by US armed troops guarding the hatches. This reminds me of the story told by a neighbour many years ago when he was a merchant sailor in USA. He told the story of how a man was shot dead for trying to steal a melon. There was a load of melons on the quayside and the police officer decided if he did not act they would soon all be gone. Nobody argued. Kip Man shot dead for stealing a melon!

All, Living in Southampton I have never properly understood the chronology of embarkation. The UK story is that the Loading Tables were accurate but as the narration points out this was because the British suspended the timetable for a day whilst the US did not, causing congestion and forced the US to load ad hoc.
