Vickers light tank Mk VI as captured by Italians. Base kit is Vulcan's 1/35 African version, plus some AM and scratch building as listed in the tags above.

Colours are based on these two b/w period photos. There have been a few comments elsewhere that turret flag colours should start with green on top. Though I agree with that sequence, it is not what I'm seeing in the tonal values of the b/w photos. Any thoughts on this?

I usually like to include some actual information to put the build in historical context, but other than two period photos, nothing found about these captured vehicles. This one in particular seems to have no severe battle damage. My best guess is the original owners abandoned it either due to mechanical problems or it got stuck in soft sand. Anyhow, the rest of the photos ...

    Jack,

Congratulations on an excellent model, particularly like the detail of the track imprints in the sand, and weathering on the tank. Regarding the tricolour I think that you are assuming that the darker of the shades in the b/w picture is the red colour. You could test that theory by opening the photo of the model in photoshop (or some other editing app) and reverse engineering the photo into b/w. A comparison of the original b/w and the model b/w may confirm the colour palette one way or the other.

Hope that we will see more of your efforts, David.

Hello David and Clive, thanks for that, much appreciated.

I have looked at tonal values, and it is odd at best. See below photo test with comparison to period photo.

On top is the build as presented, with red being considered the darkest of the greys. Grey tones do not match wartime photo, but hull colours are the correct order with green first, but turret is wrong -Hungarian flag colours!

Bottom shows flag colours reversed. Now grey scale matches period photo, and turret colours are correct, but hull colours are not proper, as green is suppose to be left side of Italian flag.

It's a no win situation, as either approach results with one aspect being wrong.

    Jack
