    John,
The cross has just this minute come through the letter box.
We'll soon be off, so I'll post photos on my return.
    Thank You.

Shame..I can't help but wonder what if Gordon and his oppo had been American? Oh well, we have a lovely NHS..don't we? How can I find out more about the WW2 Society, Paul?

It may be of help in the future, but I belive of all people the Post Office staff associaton or some such thing in the East Midlands run regular trips to the battlefields and cemeteries. I know they are always publishing letters in local paper asking if anyone wants pics of graves or crosses left etc, I even think they offer assistance in travelling with them. I'll try and find out. We dont get mail delivered on time but if they do in fact do this I'll forgive em.

Put the cross on Stanleys grave yesterday.
In The museum at Anzio was , believe it or not, a photo of Stanley on the wall.
I took a photo of him and will post it when we get back to the UK.

    PS. Having a great trip.

    Owen and all concerned
Thank you so much, marvellous result and photos.. Gordon is away until Tuesday, he is visiting his daughter, but as soon as he is back I will take your photos round, he will be over the moon...on my last visit to him he said he would sort a photo out of himself in uniform...would be nice to see the two lads together on the site. Once again many many thanks.

    John

Sorry for my late reply, been having a few computer problems.
I took the photos to Gordon, as you can expect he was a little choked up....so was I ...we didn't say much for a while, but Gordon does send his thanks ...please see photo below, I think it sums it all up...Will post another photo of Gordon in uniform later.....once again...many many thanks.

    John.

    Thanks for posting that John.
I'm glad to be able to help Gordon to see his old chum again.
Our trip had many highlights and this is one of them.

I wonder , John, if it'd be worth contacting the Anzio War Museum to see if they have a record of who gave them Stanley's photo.
Maybe Gordon could then be able to contact the family if it was them who donated it?

What an absolutely lovely story from start to finish. An absolute credit to all involved in such a worthy cause.

What a great forum to achieve a result like this.

SSAFA may be able to provide funding for the visit. There will be a local branch (or a least one located in the district) the Charity provides financial and other assistance to Veterans and Serving Personnel....hopefully they may be able to assist Gordon.

Fabulous thing that a photo was obtained ... I have touched up the blemishes a bit.

Got to be one of the best threads I've viewed on the forum. This sort of thing is the reason I volunteer my services as a resident of the Sudan willing to help others.

Well done to all involved! CARL

I am not sure if this is relevant but I have a copy of "80 Company RASC" Club booklet. It has the name of G. Ingram listed as being a member from Redhills, Durham. My grandfather was also in this Coy and the booklet details entries showing life and daily movements of this coy. My grandfather name was Sidney Bryant from Sussex and he was a driver (although that is all I know about his service). Do you think your Gordon Ingram might be the person listed in this booklet?
