The parade of veterans in Scotland to mark the VE Day celebrations is not being allowed to go ahead as the G8 leaders will be in town and all demos are banned. The veterans are ' not very happy ' to say the least. With the ' Regiment mergers ' as well, I wouldn't be surprised at civil disobedience by some old soldiers and I wouldn't blame them. What a way to thank them for our freedoms.

Sad news Malcolm! Perhaps a parade in another city, if it's not too late?

Chief Constable has stepped in to say the veterans are an exception and ordered his men to support the march. ' Without their sacrifices there wouldn't be a G8 Summit ' he said. Royal British Legion are to provide stewards.

Well it may put the police to the test to have to police both events, but I don't expect the veterans will try too hard to storm the G8 barricades!

Certainly a better event to attend than standing around to see a bunch of "world leaders" in suits going in and out of a conference centre.

Mote power to the veterans' elbows.
