Vanishing posts ?

Can anyone tell me why a new posting vanishes so quickly? I spend some time writing with my famous "one digit at a time" method only to see what I posted vanish quickly....... It does seem a lot of work for a very brief showing.
A Happy New Year to All :)

    Haven't a clue Brian.
Might be worth doing it on a word document so you can save it as you go along first then copy & pasting it when you're ready to post.
Unless you mean my Wootton Bassett thread which I pulled/deleted as I thought it would stir up too much trouble.

I believe I know what Brian's on about and I intend to monitor this thread to see how long it is before it disappears from the "New Posts" list.

When I clicked on NEW POSTS at 10:50 there were 6 articles listed, the latest at 10:51, the oldest at 10:25 and Brian's article was sitting 4th from the top,

I shall look at NEW POSTS again at 11:15 and see if Brian's article has disappeared from sight :)

    Watch this space !!!

    Sapper,
If you are looking for your own posts, I would advise you do what I do ...
click on User CP and then again on View All Subscribed Threads. That will bring up a list of all threads on which you have posted.

    This has got me thinking.

Is it that if no one responds to a thread immediately it gets shunted out of the way until someone replies and therefore re-activates it ?

Have a look at the image below. If I had not replied to Brian's original query (timed at 10:24 am) it would now have sunk without trace.

    Cheers !

I would say that's what happens. You've probably seen Forum members writing something like "bump" just to bring a thread back into view again.

The RA thread I started for example, which you've probably seen, is currently out of view. I'll bump it for you to show what I mean.

Never tried that before....... I like it !!!.....................they do say live & learn :)

    Robert

Thanks for that, I always wondered what was intended by the "bump" expression :)

Just to give you an idea of what has happened since I bumped my RA thread. In 35 minutes, it has fallen 6 places down the page with no replies, but 17 people have viewed it in that time.

With regard to Brian's threads, I've read every one of them with fascination but not commented, so they are read and more importantly, "NOT FORGOTTON". Your's and the other Vets as well.

That it seems to me is the problem: We post what we think could be of interest to the readers of this site....Only to see it vanish before anyone had a look at it..That means trawling through... To see where it is...hardly worth the bother at my age.

It also indicates a lack of interest of articles from the Horses mouth ...To coin a phrase ! I see Ron's contributions, then within a short time... they are gone.
There are so few of us...after 65 years that are around to tell it like it was. So the removal of these factual posts, shows a lack of genuine interest, in what those that were there... have to say.

Happy New Year to you both

Your posts ( as with everyone) are always read , digested and logged by all on here.
Please keep them going. They are and will continue to be the most valuable source of live information and data that is available.
Im sure as with myself that we dont only read just new posts, if all are like me (which is the case im sure) we are always digging over old posts for info and news so their worth is priceless.

    regards

    Brian,
I really don't think that is the case at all... check out the views that your threads get, rather than how many comments they provoke.

For instance I write up citations and articles that I find in Times archives. Hardly anyone comments on these, but there are quite a few who would look at the thread... my attitude is that they are out in the ether and if even one person finds them interesting, that's good enough. The threads don't vanish, they are permanently here!

Don't think for one minute that your posts are not of interest! I send rep points when words fail otherwise (and going by the little green squares you have received plenty), and quite a few members would be like me and perhaps believe that to comment is to interrupt your flow.

    Please keep posting.

    Regards
    Diane

I thought that the 'New Posts' section showed you posts since you last viewed?, so it would dissapear quickly.

I always use the 'portal' option, as that shows me all new posts and they dont dissapear unless they drop down the list,

I also use the Portal section as well.

Don't stop writing as they will always be read. Most of your recent threads have several hundred views, so well worth the effort.

    Brian,
I have just logged on and after reading this thread I am glad that you at least realise that your threads are always well read and received, although perhaps not replied upon as much as you would like.

You only have to see the replies to know that you, Ron and other Veteran's reports are extremely well received and long may they be so.

    Regards
    Tom
